
Patrick Young got the start and earned the win, going the full 5 innings, giving up two earned runs and striking out three.
On the offensive end, Coben Scarsella led the way with 2 hits and 3 RBIs. Jimmy Putko added 2 hits and 2 runs. Aiden McVeigh and Andrew Lindeman each added a hit and an RBI. Logan Miller added a hit and 2 runs, Marco Trafficante scored 2 runs, and Ben Breese and Young each added a hit. Zac Caldwell and Sal Ianazone each added an RBI.
The JV Spartans improve to 6-9 and will look to continue their winning streak when they host West Branch tomorrow.

Boys LAX Bounces Back to Dominate Southeast
The boys Varsity Lacrosse team bounced back from Tuesday's tough loss to shut out the Southeast Pirates 18-0. Junior captain Chase Zelesnak would get things going early with 2 goals and 2 assists in the first four minutes. His first goal was unassisted while his second goal was from senior captain CJ Rice. Zelesnak’s assists would go to teammate and senior captain Luke DeJoseph while the other would be to junior teammate Daniel Ramovs. It would be hard to stop the offense as 8 different Spartans would score. Zelesnak and DeJoseph would lead the team with four goals apiece and Zelesnak would add 3 assists on the night as well. Rice would complete the hat trick with 3 pole goals and Ramovs and Kyle Congson would add 2 each. Rounding out the scoring was Tanner Dravecky, Liam Moore and Tyler Holcomb with one goal each. Not to be outdone, the defense posted the shoutout behind the combined effort of Lane Schubert and Sean Myers. Mikey Montgomery would dominate the midline going 12 for 15 on faceoffs. Moore would get some action at faceoff as well going 4 for 5. Montgomery would lead the team in ground balls as well with 9 while teammate CJ Rice would be close behind with 6. It was a true team effort as the entire team would get in, keep the pressure on the offensive side and secure the shutout.
The boys will be back in action at home vs. Revere on Saturday for their Military Appreciation Game.

JV Boardman 6 Roosevelt 10/ Varsity Boardman 7 Roosevelt 17
The Boardman Girls JV Lacrosse team put up a spirited fight tonight, ultimately falling to Kent Roosevelt with a final score of 6-10. The Spartans' offense was a true team effort, featuring goals from Harlow Kolesar, Adelynne Ganser, Korinne Hernon, Suri Stevens and Giavanna Kalmer. To keep the pressure on, Olivia Cuveas and Suri Stephens each battled for two crucial draw controls that helped drive the ball into the offensive zone.
Defensively, Giavanna Kalmer showed great hustle by securing two key ground ball controls to win back possession for the Spartans. Both Maddie Whyde and Vic Donaldson would step in and help the JV's defense take a stand. In the goal Audrey Lorenzi had nine impressive saves to keep the team competitive throughout the match. Although they didn't get the win tonight, the girls displayed good teamwork from start to finish.
The Spartan Varsity had an off and then on again quarters against the Rough Riders of Kent falling 7-17. Boardman had trouble in the first 2 halves cleaning up ground balls and getting the ball on the offensive side. Once Boardman settled down, Lydia Kenney took matters in her own hands and scored 6 goals along with Val Hoysack adding one. Carly Albanese started and finished the game at the Center position gathering a career high 8 draws on the night.
Boardman's defense came around in the second half with only allowing Kent Roosevelt to score 4 points. The Spartan leaders for ground balls were Anna Bowes, Suri Stevens, Korrinne Hernon, Pickles Vondran and Jaycey Bogerd. Boardman was missing a few key players but the other girls that subbed in were a bright spot with a good looking future ahead. The Spartans look to rebound against Canfield tonight.

The Spartans opened the meet by placing first in the 4x800 relay with the team of senior Adam Nigro, senior Chase Moore, junior Tommy Sullivan, and sophomore Donovan Simione. Junior Ethan Timblin placed third in the 110H with classmate Stephan Stanford in fourth.
Junior Dylan White placed second in the 1600 with classmate Jonathan Burgos-Perez in fourth. The Spartan 4x100 Relay Team of senior Kevin Tomlin, senior Jerry Smith, senior Blake Daniels, and junior Frank Butto placed seventh. In the 400 meter dash, junior Robrick Taylor placed third. Timblin placed 2nd and Stanford took 3rd in the 300H. Nigro placed first in the 800 with Sullivan in fourth.
The field events saw Smith place fifth in the Long Jump. Junior Khaled Mohammed placed third in Discus with senior Ahmed Mohammed in fifth. Senior Dominic Theodore placed second in the Pole Vault and freshman Ezekiel Doyle tied for third place.
Due to weather, the 200, 3200, 4x400, and Shot Put were not contested.

The boys Varsity lacrosse team lost a heartbreaking game to Canfield in overtime 7-6. It would be a back and forth game all night as it seemed every time one team scored, the other would answer. Luke DeJoseph would start off the scoring and keep the game close scoring two of his four goals in the first quarter to keep the Spartans within one goal. Daniel Ramovs provided DeJoseph with an assist in the first before getting on the scoreboard himself, with one of his two goals in the game. That goal would bring the score even before Canfield added one to go into the half 4-3. DeJoseph would tie it up in the third before Canfield would retake the lead again 5-4. With a ball destined to go out of bounds, Ryan Smith made a highlight save that was scooped up by Ramovs who took it the distance to tie the game at 5 going into the 4th quarter. DeJoseph would score the lone goal in the fourth to send the game into overtime before Canfield hit a man-up shot with just :37 seconds left in the overtime period for the win. Defensively, goalie Lane Schubert would come up with 7 saves and a great night of clear passing while teammate and brother Finn Schubert would lead the team in ground balls with 5.
The team will play their final home game against Revere on Saturday.

The JV Boys lacrosse team lost a close battle to Canfield 3-1. Tanner Dravecky had the only goal for the Spartans in the first half and it would be 1-1 for most of the game. Canfield would score two more goals in the second half to seal the victory. The close game was led defensively by goalie Sean Myers who had 8 saves on the night. Joey Geras, Luke Kornbau and Liam Moore led the team in ground balls with 3 each.

The Lady Spartans were the Mahoning County Champions in 5 of the 13 contested events due to adverse weather toward the conclusion of the meet.
Olivia Brady led the charge with her double county championship in the 1600 (5:25.01) and 800 (2:26.98). The 4x800 relay of Haley Bero, Moriah Doyle, Mia Duble and Jordyn Lacivita were the first champions posted a time of 10:16. Gigi Angiuli was the county champion in the 100 hurdles winning with a time of 15.52. Lili Ison was the county champion in the shot put with a mark of 38' 6".
Bringing home silver medal for the Lady Spartans include: the 4x200 relay of Alena Scott, Bryanna James, Jasmine Matthews and Ava Gaps; Haley Bero in the 1600 and Gigi Angiuli in the 300 hurdles.
Bringing home bronze medals for the Lady Spartans include: Liza Letunova in the pole vault; Gwen McLane in the shot put; the 4x100 relay of Alena Scott, Bryanna James, Jasmine Matthews and Zohna McMille; Mia Duble in the 800 and Gigi Angiuli in the long jump.
Rounding out the scoring for the Lady Spartans were: Sam Lenhart, 4th place in the pole vault; Gina Mariani, 4th place in the high jump; Kealia Bravo, 5th place in the 400 and Tea Smith, 7th place in the high jump.
The Lady Spartans will return to action on Friday, May 8th at the Hudson Grand Prix.

The Spartans got another dominant start on the mound, this time coming from Clayton Hoffman as he pitched a complete game, going 5 innings, giving up only one run on two hits while striking out eleven to earn the victory.
Offensively, Boardman drew 13 walks and added 10 hits to get their 12 runs. Logan Miller led the way with 3 hits and 3 runs scored. Zac Caldwell added 2 hits and 2 RBIs and Jason Clark added a 2 hit game with an RBI. Jimmy Putko added a hit and 2 RBIs. Patrick Young and Coben Scarsella each added a hit. Hoffman helped his cause with an RBI. Justin Beish, Marco Trafficante, Aiden McVeigh, Ben Breese, and Dylan Bruce each added a run.
The JV Spartans improve to 5-9 and will return to action on Friday when they host West Branch.

Senior Collin Resetar got the start on the mound and delivered as usual going the distance, pitching 5 innings, giving up only two hits and striking out eight for the complete game shutout.
Resetar helped his own cause at the plate as well, adding 2 hits and 2 RBIs. Fellow Seniors Brady McCauley added 2 RBIs and Tyler Kirlik added a double and an RBI. Donovan Whippo added a double and 2 RBIs. Seniors Vince Butto and Ryan Neifer each added a run, with Butto contributing an RBI. LJ Norvell added an RBI, Sammy Moritz added a hit and two runs, and Ben Kelso scored a run.
The Spartans improve to 8-9 (4-2 in AAC) and will be back in action on Friday when they travel to West Branch. Once again we would like to congratulate our five seniors, Tyler, Vince, Brady, Collin, and Ryan on great careers.

Boardman Softball Dominates Warren G. Harding, 17–0
Boardman delivered a dominant performance on Monday, shutting out Warren G. Harding 17–0 behind a complete team effort.
Leading the way in the circle was Emily Swantek, who was outstanding in her first appearance of the season. Swantek needed just 67 pitches to secure the shutout, striking out 11 while allowing only three hits.
Offensively, the Spartans exploded early, scoring 15 runs across the first two innings. Addie Rudge paced the offense with three RBIs, including her fifth triple of the season. Kate Thames went a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate with a double and two RBIs. Kowacich contributed with a 1-for-1 performance, adding two walks and two RBIs, while Gabi Sferra finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
Boardman’s discipline at the plate was evident, as the Spartans did not record a single strikeout and drew 13 walks, including four by Mikayla Rivera. Ellie Wymer added two hits, while Kenzie Cherne and Swantek each chipped in a hit, with Swantek also driving in two runs.
The Spartans improve to 11-7 on the year, ranked #7 in the OHSFCA coaches' poll in Division III, and return to action Tuesday as they host Warren G. Harding in game two, where they will also honor their seniors.

The JV Spartans improve to 4-9 and will return to action tomorrow when they travel to Warren for another matchup with Harding.

Tyler Kirlik was once again dominant on the hill, going all 5 innings in a complete game shutout. Kirlik gave up only one hit and struck out eight batters.
Offensively, the Spartans gave the pitching more than enough as they belted twelve hits, drew eight walks, and scored twelve runs. Vince Butto led the way with 2 hits, including a double, and 3 RBIs. Ryan Neifer, Danny Jorge, and LJ Norvell each added two hit games, with Neifer added an RBI, Jorge adding a double, and Norvell scoring 2 runs. Sammy Moritz and Donovan Whippo each added a hit and 2 RBIs. Thomas Ramovs and Jonathan Grope each added a hit as well.
The Spartans improve to 7-9 (3-1 in AAC) and will host Warren Harding tomorrow to honor their five seniors on Senior Night.

Glenwood set the tone early in the sprints, with Alexa Duble winning the 100-meter dash and Addyson Rodriguez finishing second. Rodriguez came back to claim first in the 200 meters, while Duble added another victory in the 400, followed by teammate Rylie Pavone in second.
In the distance events, Abby Marks led the way with a first-place finish in the 1600-meter run. Rylie Stellato added a second-place finish in both the 800 and 1600, while Pavone and Zara Harlan contributed additional points with third-place efforts.
Kennedy Massey dominated the hurdles, sweeping both the 100- and 200-meter hurdle events. The 4x100-meter relay team of Rodriguez, Massey, Rima Rosenburg, and Josey Fiddler also secured a first-place finish.
Glenwood controlled the field events as well. Vanessa Torres was a double winner, taking first in both shot put and discus. Brooklyn Thomas added a second-place finish in shot put, while Audrey Bennett placed second in discus. Riley Seydlorsky rounded out the top performances with a first-place finish in the high jump.
With contributions across sprints, distance, relays, and field events, Glenwood showcased its depth and talent in the convincing win. The girls will be back in action Monday night at Southeast.
On the boys' side, they turned in several strong individual and relay performances but fell to Howland, 85-56, in a middle school dual meet.
Glenwood was led by a dominant showing in the 400-meter dash, where Owen Papini claimed first place and teammate Roman Timblin followed closely behind in second. Papini also played a key role in the 4x400-meter relay team, joining Evan Letendre, Drixson Wibowo, and Timblin to secure another first-place finish.
Distance events proved to be a strength for Glenwood. Austin Gillin captured first in the 1600-meter run, while Ben Papa took second and Jonah Gluck added a third-place finish. Gluck also placed third in the 800 meters. The 4x800-meter relay team of Papa, Ury Doyle, Gluck, and Jake McGee delivered a standout performance, earning first place.
In field events, Evan Letendre cleared the competition to win the high jump, with teammate Michael Flores finishing second. Glenwood also picked up points from Brenden Baker (third in shot put) and Andrew Marks (third in discus).
Tanisorn Suanaoy added a second-place finish in the 100-meter dash to round out the Spartans’ top efforts.
Despite the loss, Glenwood showed depth across multiple events and will look to build on its performances in their meet against Southeast on Monday night.

The Boys Varsity Lacrosse team won their second game in a row, beating the Kirtland Hornets 10-4. For the second game in a row, senior captain CJ Rice would open up the scoring for the Spartans with a long-stick goal. Junior Daniel Ramovs would get the next two goals on his way to a hat trick for the game. Junior teammate Chase Zelesnak and senior captain Luke DeJoseph each add a goal to give Boardman a 5-3 lead going into halftime. The Hornets would score their final goal of the game in the 3rd quarter to pull the game to within one. The Spartan offense would come alive scoring 5 goals in the fourth quarter to pull away 10-4. DeJoseph, Ramovs and Zelesnak would end up with 2, 3 and 4 goals respectively in the game as well as being responsible for all 5 goals of the fourth quarter. After letting up three goals in the first quarter, the defense would post two shutout quarters and just one goal in the third. Goalie Lane Schubert had an astounding afternoon posting 15 saves while Rice and teammate Mikey Montgomery led the ground ball game with 7 each.
The boys will look to make it 3 in a row as they travel to cross-town rival Canfield on Tuesday.

The Boys Varsity Lacrosse team would give their seniors a proper sendoff by beating rival Cardinal Mooney 12-2 in a dominant performance. In the second quarter, Mooney would get two goals to make things interesting making the halftime score 4-2. That would be the only scoring the Cardinals would do as the defense shut them out in the other three quarters led by goalie Lane Schubert who had 6 saves on the night and senior base defender Michael Sosnowski. Mikey Montgomery would lead the team in ground balls with 5 while going 13 for 17 on faceoffs. Not to be outdone, the offense would be led by the seniors on their night with five of six seniors scoring goals. Luke DeJoseph led the way with a hat trick while teammate Kyle Congson added two of his own goals. Normally recognized for their defensive prowess, senior defenders would start and finish the game on the offensive end. LSM CJ Rice would put in the first goal of the night for the Spartans. It would be defensive middies Toby Sofran and Ryan Smith that would score the last two goals of the game to seal the victory. Adding to the scoring during the game to help ensure the seniors would leave with a victory, juniors Tanner Dracecky, Daniel Ramovs and Chase Zelesnak would score two goals and one apiece respectively.
The boys will look to get two in a row as they travel to Kirtland on Saturday.

The Spartans pitched fairly well as they went with a committee approach. Thomas Ramovs got the start and took the loss going 2 innings, giving up three earned runs while striking five. Tyler Helmick came in for relief pitching 2 innings giving up one unearned run. Danny Jorge pitched the final 2 innings in scoreless fashion with two strikeouts.
On offense the Spartans had 8 hits, but weren't able to get the big hit when they needed it most. Vince Butto, Tyler Kirlik, and Jonatha Grope each had two hits. Butto with a double and two runs and Kirlik with an RBI. Ryan Neifer added an RBI. Sammy Moritz and LJ Norvell each added a hit.
The Spartans fall to 6-9 and will return to action on Monday when they travel to Warren Harding for AAC play.
